About Us

About beausanders.org

This website was originally launched in 2002 as beausanders.com while I was an adjunct instructor in the Network Systems Administration Department at Greenville Technical College in Greenville, South Carolina. Its original purpose was to distribute lecture notes, lab materials, assignments, and other class material to students in my classes. At that time the college did not have the technology to distribute class materials on the Internet. We added an online glossary, discussion forum, links directory, and a few other features to engage our students.

In 2010 we changed the domain to beausanders.org to make it sound less commercial, but we still maintain alias domains beausanders.com, beausanders.us, beausanders.net, and beausanders.info. We have added several additional servers to help manage our development projects including production servers linux1.beausanders.org, linux3.beausanders, linux4.beausanders.org, and linux6.beausanders.org. Running separate servers provides redundancy and backup, as well as good practice maintaining our systems administration skills.

Over the years our website has gone through many changes. We created the GeekGlossary.com web app to modernize our online glossary. Then we developed the Jobs Board. Recently we took the Links Directory out of mothballs and cleaned it up. It was added back to the website in March 2021.

Thank you for visiting beausanders.org. Use our Contact form if you have any questions, suggestions, or comments to share.

Features Added to the Jobs Board

Over the years we have tried a number of different open source and “for fee” solutions for the Jobs Board on beausanders.org. It was recently decided that we would develop our own web app for the Jobs Board. The latest version of our Jobs Board was launched in January 2016. Since then several new features have been added.

If you have not visited our Jobs Board lately, please check it out. Several local companies and recruiting agencies have already started posting their job openings for our students via the Jobs Board. Anyone can post a job to the Jobs Board. If you know of any employment opportunities that would be of interest to our CPT Department students or alumni, please visit our Jobs Board and click on Post Job on the Jobs Board for instructions.

We added automatic email notifications. Click on Subscribe in the Jobs Board menu and enter your name and email address(es). You will receive an email within one day of new job listings being posted on our Jobs Board.

Please help us promote our Jobs Board. Tell your HR department and hiring authorities about this free service. We have around 350 students in our programs at anytime. We want to help them all find good jobs in IT in our area.

Welcome to beausanders.org.

By way of background, I was raised in Greenville not far from the main Greenville Tech campus, graduating from Greenville High School and the University of South Carolina. Along the way I attended Furman University for a few years while I was “finding myself”. My dad was Chairman of the History Department at Furman, so I was raised in a family that was deeply involved in education. My younger brother is a retired Army officer. He lives in Kentucky near Fort Knox. My older sister was a nurse for many years before retiring. She passed away in August 2017. My mom was a substitute teacher in elementary schools for years. So it is easy to understand why I enjoy teaching.

My wife, Sharon, and I live in Taylors with our crazy cat named Leo. We have one son, Michael, who owns and operates The Starland Cafe in Savannah, Georgia.

In addition to being a member of the faculty at Greenville Tech, I was appointed Department Head for the Computer Programming Department at Greenville Tech in November 2010. In January 2013 I was appointed the Department Head for the Computer Technology Department after it was decided to merge the Computer Programming and Network Systems Administration Departments into one department. In May 2015 I moved to a new position as Academic Program Director for the Computer Technology Department. On August 9, 2019 I stepped down as Academic Program Director to spend more time teaching and developing courses for the department. Our department currently has over 500 active students participating in over 40 courses.

I also operate PM-Systems, a computer consulting firm here in Greenville. In recent history we have not had the time to do much consulting since joining the faculty at Greenville Technical College, but we still work for several select clients on a time available basis.
